Elegant antique binoculars featuring iridescent mother-of-pearl panels on both optical barrels and on the two-section telescopic side handle, with gilt/brass-coloured metal construction and ornate decorative borders. The telescopic lorgnette handle extends and retracts correctly. The central focusing mechanism is also operational: turning the focusing wheel moves both optical barrels and the image can be brought into focus. Faint traces of an original maker's inscription can still be seen around the eyepieces, but the marking is now too worn to identify the manufacturer with certainty. For this reason, the item is offered as maker unknown/unsigned, with no attribution to a specific manufacturer. Condition: Good antique condition consistent with age. The piece shows visible patina, oxidation, surface wear and loss to parts of the original gilt/brass-coloured finish. The black finish surrounding the eyepieces is significantly worn. The optical surfaces show age-related dust/marks. Please inspect all photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the description. The mother-of-pearl remains highly decorative, with strong natural pink, green, cream and golden iridescence. The piece has not been aggressively polished or restored, in order to preserve its antique surfaces and patina.
